De 450.000 joodse kolonisten die op de Westoever wonen, hetgeen een schending van het internationaal recht is, genieten net zo veel, of meer, water dan de 2,3 miljoen Palestijnen (niet meegerekend de 200.000 Palestijnen in bezet Oost-Jeruzalem).

Violations of the obligation to protect follow from the failure of a State to take all necessary measures to safeguard persons within their jurisdiction from infringements of the right to water by third parties. This includes, inter alia:

Geen enkele krant durft de woorden van Amnesty International te gebruiken, namelijk: het dat het “onthouden” (witholding) van water voor de Palestijnen een schending van het internationaal en humanitair recht is: “the imposition of restrictions and other measures which deny the Palestinians the right to water in the OPT, violate Israel’s obligations under both human rights and humanitarian law.”
Maar ook Amnesty International, die tientallen jaren te laat komt met dit rapport (pdf), speelt het spel braaf mee met een man-bijt-hond truc: nergens wordt gesteld dat Israël water van de Palestijnen steelt, maar wél dat de Palestijnen water stelen van Israël: “water theft through illegal connections and unauthorized water extractions”.
Wanneer ik de stroom van mijn buren aftap kan ik een gepeperde boete verwachten. Wanneer Nederland hetzelfde doet bij een ander land ook. Maar ja, wij zijn geen Israeliërs of joodse kolonisten, want die zijn nog steeds boven elke wet verheven.

But I’d like to ask: Do the Palestinians also have the right to self-defense?
We probably wouldn’t admit it out loud, but in our heads we would say - again, in one voice - “No!”
This is the Israeli notion of a fair deal: We’re entitled to do whatever the hell we want to the Palestinians because, by definition, whatever we do to them is self-defense. They, however, are not entitled to lift a finger against us because, by definition, whatever they do to us is terrorism.

Een alliantie of een bondgenootschap is een verdrag tussen staten, zakenpartners of individuen, omwille van een gemeenschappelijk voordeel.
Zonder verbond of verdrag bestaat een bondgenootschap niet. En wij hebben geen verdrag met Israël, waarin vastgelegd is dat wij Israël ondanks haar misdaden moeten blijven steunen. Noch dat wij nooit voor sancties zullen pleiten. Dus wanneer u in de media of van de minister mocht vernemen dat wij bondgenoot zijn van Israël, en dat daar allicht iets tegenover moet staan, zoals ‘onvoorwaardelijke steun’, dan wordt u simpelweg voorgelogen. Wij hebben geen verdrag met Israël, en zij niet met ons. Wij zijn niets aan Israël verplicht. Wel aan het internationaal recht, maar wanneer het om de nucleaire schurkenstaat Israël gaat, knijpen we altijd een oogje dicht.

Last week, Hamas sponsored a mass wedding celebration in Gaza, perhaps in an attempt to reverse its flagging poll ratings:
‘Nearly a thousand Palestinians celebrated marriage on Thursday night in a ceremony organised by Hamas in the north of the Gaza Strip.
Hamas dignitaries including Mahmud Zahar, one of the militant group’s top leaders, were on hand to congratulate 450 grooms who took part in the carefully stage-managed event.
“We are saying to the world and to America that you cannot deny us joy and happiness,” Zahar told the men, all of whom were dressed in identical black suits and hailed from the nearby Jabalia refugee camp.’
This seemingly innocuous event has formed the basis for the latest fabrication making the “pro”-Israel rounds: that many of the people getting married were pre-pubescent children. As one Daily Kos diarist fumed,
“The sad, inherently biased-against-Israel mainstream media reported on a great “celebration” in Gaza hosted by Hamas where over four hundred happy couples were married…
What no one seems to be reporting is the sick fact that most of the brides appear to be under the age of 10.”
The Daily Kos blogger is right -Ma’an News, Xinhua, the AFP and (briefly) the AP all covered the event without once reporting that the lucky brides were under 10 years old. Reasonable people might conclude from this that the brides were not in fact under 10 years old, but instead we are asked to believe that the mainstream media are so biased in favour of Hamas (bear with me) that they would either pass up the chance to further demonise an official US/Israeli enemy by ignoring the event completely, or else cover the wedding, reporting on even minor details like the colour of the bridegrooms’ suits (black, according to the AFP), without mentioning that the brides were young children.
To say that this stretches credibility would be an understatement, and indeed the evidence for the “child brides” story turns out to be non-existent. It boils down to this AP photo:

both of which show that young children dressed up and took some part in the celebration, and neither of which suggest that those children were the actual brides. According to the AFP, the brides “shared none of the glamour” of the event and remained “among the audience”. Another account similarly reports that the brides “were hidden from the public’s view”, presumably watching the “performances by a men’s choir and child couples dancing” from the audience. In fact the children were probably flower girls – y’know, like you’d expect.
Once again, the Islamophobic right’s selective outpouring of apparent concern for the welfare of Muslim women and children turns out to be an attempt to propagandise for their oppressors. I realise “pro”-Israel propagandists have been finding it difficult lately, especially given Hamas’s increasingly explicit acceptance of a two-state settlement, but really, they’re going to have to do a lot better than this.

I was there at the Wedding ceremony. We filmed the event. These young girls are NOT the brides. The brides are among the 5,000 or so audience. Where is your proof they are child brides. It is a cultural thing among the conservative Gazans to do things this way. It is grossly unfair to portray ordinary Gazan men in this way. Hamas does enough terrible things to write about without having to resort to making things up. The girls are having fun drssing up. Its been like that for years.”

Israeli police evicted more than 50 Palestinians from their homes in East Jerusalem Sunday and then moved Jewish settlers into the houses.
Police said they were acting on eviction orders from an Israeli court that upheld Jewish settlers’ claims to the land in the Sheikh Jarrah area.
The evicted Palestinians were from two families, and officials say some of the family members had lived in the dwellings for 50 years. Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat said some of the newly homeless are children.
The forcible eviction drew quick criticism from Palestinians, the United Nations and the United States.
The U.N. special coordinator for the Middle East peace process, Robert Serry, called the evictions “totally unacceptable.” U.S. and Palestinian officials separately said Israel was disregarding its obligations when it forced the Palestinians from their homes.
The international community has been pressuring Israel to stop settlement activity in East Jerusalem and the occupied West Bank.
Palestinians want East Jerusalem to be the capital of their desired future state.
About 250,000 Palestinians and 200,000 Jews live in East Jerusalem.
Israel captured East Jerusalem in the 1967 Middle East war and later annexed it in a move not recognized internationally.
Waarom belangrijk nieuws in onze kranten? 1. Omdat het Israëliers betreft, en 2. omdat het homoseksuelen betreft. Uit de berichten spreekt verontwaardiging. Dat homo’s in Israël de laatste tijd meer en meer worden gediscrimineerd, bedreigd, vernederd, mishandeld en vervolgd, door extremistische joden. Schande! Inmiddels zijn honderden politieagenten op de zaak gezet en hebben de knesset en de hoogste rabbijnen de schietpartij unaniem veroordeeld.
De moord op Palestijnse kinderen door het Israëlische bezettingsleger daarentegen, is zelden tot nooit nieuws. Waarom dat is legde de hoofdredacteur van de Volkskrant Pieter Broertjes op 14 april 2007 in het Volkskrantkatern Het Betoog uit: “Sinds mensenheugenis schrijven kranten over het diepgaande conflict tussen Joden en Arabieren - en het schiet niet echt op. Met die ingredienten maak je geen spannende kranten. Zeker niet voor jonge lezers.” Spannend is het blijkbaar wel wanneer de Israëlische extremisten hun pijlen richten op homoseksuelen.
In 2008 werden in de Gazastrook alleen al 58 Palestijnse kinderen gedood. Het Israëlische leger doodde in Gaza in de eerste vier maanden (’Operation Winter Heat’) meer kinderen dan in het gehele jaar 2007. Het Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs van de VN rapporteerde de dood van ten minst 431 kinderen in Gaza tijdens Israël’s aanval tussen 27 december 2008 en 18 januari 2009.

JERUSALEM (AP) — Israel must tear down its West Bank separation barrier, a senior U.N. official said Wednesday, marking five years since the International Court of Justice declared the barrier illegal and a violation of Palestinian rights.

At a news conference in Jerusalem to mark the anniversary, the U.N. released a statement concluding that the completed barrier would close in 35,000 Palestinians and wall off another 125,000 on three sides. About 2.4 million Palestinians live in the West Bank.
The U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights, Navi Pillay, said the barrier is only part of the problem.
“The wall is but one element of the wider system of severe restrictions on the freedom of movement imposed by the Israeli authorities on Palestinian residents of the West Bank,” Pillay said. Israeli must “dismantle the wall” and “make reparations for all damage suffered by all persons affected by the wall’s construction,” she said.
Feit: bij voltooiing van de Muur wordt nog eens 20% Palestijns land in de West Bank ingenomen. Bijvoorbeeld de Muur bij de illegale joodse nederzetting Ariel (waarin Nederlandse christenen graag hun euro’s uitgeven) gaat wel 20 kilometer diep Palestijns gebied in.
De Europese Unie heeft de uitspraak van Internationaal Gerechtshof (2004) geaccepteerd, waarin wordt gesteld dat de Muur een “flagrante schending” is van het internationaal recht en afgebroken moet worden. Ook hebben alle landen van de Europese Unie een resolutie gesteund van de Algemene Vergadering van de Verenigde Naties waarin de wereldgemeenschap Israël met klem oproept de uitspraak van het Internationaal Gerechtshof te respecteren.
Israël weigert en desalniettemin blijft de EU het land op elk gebied steunen. Dat is een verwerpelijke politiek, vooral ook omdat het Hof alle staten eraan heeft herinnerd “dat zij de verplichting hebben om de illegale situatie niet te erkennen die voortvloeit uit de constructie van de muur en om geen hulp of bijstand te verlenen in het handhaven van de situatie die geschapen is door de bouw ervan”. Europa zwijgt en Israël gaat gewoon verder, want de zionisten eisen nog meer dan het 7,4% resterende Palestijns land van hun laatste aanbod (”Road Map”, 2000) op.
